I think I skipped a couple weeks in there because I moved again (c’mon LA apartment #3!). Moving really makes it so the only thing on your agenda is moving. Also you get all this stuff together thinking it’ll be pretty sweet, wayyyyy different from your last place, and then it turns out to be kinda the exact same as the place you lived before. But now the chair’s over there and the toilet runs.
Passions this week include: dog no longer limping, hot donuts, and this audio book where I know what’s gonna happen but it never happens.
Before I went out for dinner, the dog was fine. When I came home from dinner, the dog had developed a limp. I asked him what happened and he refused to answer. I called the vet, the vet said to keep an eye on him, so I kept an eye on him. 24 hours later, the dog was no longer limping. Loved that.
There’s a fancy donut place by my apartment that I’ve always walked by but never gone in. I’ve avoided it because I’m never in the mood to spend $5 on a donut that’s flavored “charcoal lavender.” But in the midst of the move, I had no food and no coffee, and I decided to give it a go. In addition to the charcoals and lavenders, this place also offers familiar flavors like “strawberry” and that donut was hot and fresh and delicious. Must be all the charcoal.
I listen to a lot of audiobooks with the Libby app. It’s through the New York Public Library, and if you don’t wanna wait for a book on hold for 13 weeks, your options are limited to the “Available Now” section. These books tend to be called “The Wife Who Cheated” or “My Father Is My Killer” or “I Will Be Wronged.” Books where the title tells you the entire plot so there are no surprises. But as a reader, I find myself growing impatient for when the wife will cheat or the father will kill. I’m 4.5 hours into one right now, and the old wife is upstairs and the new wife is downstairs and they still haven’t met. I don’t know when it will happen, but with each passing hour, I’m blown away by how long it’s taking. They’re in the same house!
And now some from the readers…
Elizabeth: “One of my passions this week is spelling passions psssions. I had a whole other passion to discuss until I accidentally typed psssions. I think this could be the spelling used when you’re at the library and want to tell a fellow browser about a passion.”
Cheyenne: “My week's passion is this blanket I'm knitting for my upcoming nephew. The colors I picked are beautiful, and the stitch is simple enough that I can knit it anywhere. It gets smaller as you go along, which is any knitter's dream, and I'm so excited to have arrived at the age where I'm knitting heirlooms for my friends and family.”
Alex: “Lately, I’ve been wandering on to the craigslist app and browsing the “antiques” or “free stuff” sections. It feels like stepping into a portal from a Marvel movie where everything is just “random” and only loosely threatening. “Antique Hand Carved Pelican on large wooden ships pulley” better believe that sucker’s going for $225. “Free Clean Dirt.” The seller said they have more than what’s in the photos. And of course, “Straps (please read post)” “Assorted straps. If interested, please give me a date and time you would like to pick up. I will not respond without this. Map is included in the post.” They’re just random little pieces of cut up belt! This is the stuff that makes life worth living again, until the next day anyway.”
If you have a passion, you can always reply to this email with 1-2 sentences about it!
