After googling not one but THREE spas that turned out to be mental hospitals, I decided it was time to actively try to de-stress.
Passions this week include: little shitty keyboard, baseball hats, and licorice tea.
I bought the shittiest little keyboard I could find. It’s used from Guitar Center, and some of the keys have food stains on them, which makes me think someone at one point was eating spaghetti while playing this keyboard and having the time of their lives. Some of the keys work, some of them don’t, and it only makes sound when plugged into my computer. The set up has so many wires, I feel like I’m about to start hacking. I took piano lessons as a kid but haven’t played since then, and it’s been nice to spend 15-20 minutes every night playing the worst version of “Always Be My Baby” I’ve ever heard.
When you don’t want to shower, but you do want to go outside, you just put on a baseball hat. This is a fact of life nobody told me, I just had to figure it out for myself. Thanks a lot, FRIENDS AND FAMILY.
Someone had me over and served licorice tea, and when I tasted it, I thought, that stuff is something else! It’s so sweet and almost thick? Like hot adult Kool-Aid.
And now some from the readers…
Abbey: “This week (and every week) I'm passionate about picture books. These books for children are full of some of the best storytelling and art the culture has to offer. Yes there are some duds, but there are also true masterpieces. I work at a library and when we get a new batch of picture books I read every single one.”
Vincent: “When you go to the pet store and buy a toy, and your pet loves it. My girlfriend recently bought a catnip stuffed heart for our cats and it was a surprise hit. They will not stop kicking it and grooming it. It's soaking wet and I'm so glad! When you ride public transit to a baseball game, and the closer you get, the more people get on wearing the same hat you're wearing. My girlfriend's dad called this phenomenon "the Yankees express" once on the way to a game. I don't know if that's like, a recurring thing with him or just a joke he made that one single time, but now I think about it (and swap different team names in) every time I go to a game.”
If you have a passion, you can reply to this email with 1-2 sentences about it.
