August Week 4
i gave the dog a pretzel and he spit it out!
Last week’s Pie Tasting Festival went better than I thought it would. Sure, we ran out of pie an hour and a half in, and the event was three hours long, which meant the second half was a lot of standing around looking at empty pie pans, but that’s alright. I am not Type A, but I have these ideas for projects, and then I execute them so haphazardly (I brought a bag of 11 loose, sharp knives and left the pie at home) that it’s incredible they actually happen. If I do the fest again next year, I’m gonna enlist an organized person to help. I will say the ONE good thing about being a chaotic person, and there’s really only one good thing, is that SOMETIMES you find crumpled up money in your pants pockets.
Passions this week include: Love Island UK, bean salad, finding something to do from 3-5am.
I’m watching Love Island UK until Love Island USA comes back in September. I’ve watched 42 episodes, and each one has the same run time as The Departed. Last night I had a dream about Helena, Harry, and Shakira. I don’t like that they’ve entered my subconscious but I like that there’s so many episodes, it feels endless.
My tiktok algorithm has miraculously changed from Broadway to bean salad. Must have something to do with the weather. After watching somewhere between 23 and 100 videos on making them, I felt like I got the gist. You pour cans of beans, cheese, and any vegetables you have into a bowl, and then you drown it in vinaigrette. Does not turn out bad, but the textures are all across the board. Sometimes I’ll be chewing on something soft and I’m like, hope that’s supposed to be soft!!
Every night, I find myself awake from 3-5am, and I’m wondering if maybe I’m becoming hamster. I want to do something with the time because my sleep schedule seems to have landed on this. Maybe I should start a nocturnal book club, or just a nightly zoom meeting to discuss how talented Audra McDonald is, I bet that’d be popular. And look, here I go starting haphazard projects again.
And now some from the readers…
Josh: “I love taking my little pug to the little dog park. He spends 98% of the day laying on different surfaces but it really makes my heart swell to see how excited he gets sniffing around other dogs. He’s such a sweet boy and I like to think he enjoys his life.”
Nana: “Well Jo, I have a hole in my left wisdom tooth. I demanded to keep em after they all grew in snug and I guess my passion isn’t the hole either, but keeping things out of it..? You’d think that would be simple, chew on the right side or liquifying all foods, no! I’ve tried tying meat to a string of minty floss and laying on my back while my mother waterfalls greek yogurt, hunks of sourdough, leafy greens, cbd gummies (you get it) into my mouth. I guess my passion is life rn”
Kerry: “I’ve been leaving the house with a few loose pocket mints. If I’m feeling overwhelmed or like I’m gonna puke for any variety of fake reasons I reach into my pocket, toss a mint in my mouth, and I usually feel like I’m gonna survive within a few minutes. Recently, a good friend found out about my pocket mint situation and now when I offer her one she goes “oh yes!” And what’s more delightful than that?Sometimes I have ginger mints when I can and well, if ya know ya know.”
