Someone spilled a bunch of potato chips a block away from my apartment and if my dog were writing this newsletter, the biggest passion yet would be CHIPS ON THE GROUND.
Passions this week include: Starbucks Chocolate Cold Foam Topper, Simon and Garfunkel, and clomping around in boots.
Starbucks Chocolate Cold Foam Topper. I’ve only had it once but I think about it every other day and sometimes, I wander by a Starbucks just to see if there’s no line but there’s always a big long line and this is likely because they’re all trying to get Chocolate Cold Foam Topper. It’s basically a regular iced coffee topped with a blob of chocolate cool whip, I know that doesn’t sound appetizing but it really sings.
Last week, I woke up really stressed, so I put on one of those upbeat woman-songs (think “Fight Song” etc) where a woman is belting “YOU’RE HAVING A GOOD DAY, YOU’RE GONNA BE STRONG, I BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT”. Then in the midst of the second chorus, I drove into a cement pillar. All to say, this week I’m trying a more relaxing musical approach with Simon and Garfunkel. Some of the songs are so relaxed and carefree, it makes me think pot was very different back then.
I got a pair of used cowboy boots from ebay and I’ve been clomping around in them. My walking is now super loud and I have a suspicion it’s amping up both fear and respect.
And now some from the readers…
Dev: “I'm passionate about having friends in different time zones. When I feel like chatting with someone but it's a weird hour where most people are at work, I call someone who's already in the future. Bonus if those friends in different time zones work overnight shifts and keep weird hours - I accidentally called my friend at 4:30am her time, but she was finishing work and we had the best talk.”
Matthew: “My passion this week is making lists of things. I am a birder, and all of the little air guys I see go onto a list. I also have been collecting toys from my childhood, and a list helps make sure I don’t buy duplicates. Yesterday I discovered a list I had made when I was 10 years old for my M.A.S.K. action figures collection. I realized that not only does this passion run deep, but also that I had much better handwriting back then.”
Ben: “My passion lately is listening to old 70s-90s episodes of the Casey Kasem radio show that counted down the top songs each week, but appreciating it with the benefit of time. When Mr. Kasem mentions a “new” song entering the charts that week that will someday be huge in our future “time world”, but yet unknown in theirs, I’m like….oh boy…they don’t even know how huge ‘Maneater’ is about to be.”
