Been falling asleep to Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, been dreaming of big juicy barbecue.
Passions this week include: half-watching Wonka, sunrise, and raspberries.
I spent Saturday night doing laundry and half-watching Wonka, and from what I saw, I l-o-v-e-d. I’d switch the load from washer to dryer, come back, and they’re singing. I’d fold some shirts, come back, they’re singing again. I thought it’d be a sappy kids movie. Nobody told me it’d be a full-blown musical! A great half-watch!
Let’s say you go to bed at 8:30pm and wake up at 5. Let’s say you go out to walk the dog early, and it’s quiet and the moon is still out and the sky is gradually getting lighter. Then the moon has gone away and the cars start honking and the sky is turning lavender. Not a bad look! Hi sunrise, I’m a fan.
Something is wrong with my mouth where I can no longer chew on cold foods. Don’t tell me to go to the dentist, he knows ALL ABOUT IT. Some cold foods are really out of the picture at this point, but raspberries, I’ve found out you don’t really have to chew them. You just put them in your mouth and smash them around and swallow them whole like big red pills. Is this sad? This is sad.
And now some from the readers…
Andrew: “Hi Jo! My name is Andrew and one of my passions this week is my new extra long phone charging cord. I hated having the standard size cord. My phone would always die while I was on the couch and the cord wouldn’t reach the outlet. I’d get really upset.”
Emerson: “My passion is snow and cold. I know there are a lot of downsides, like frostbite and driving a car on snow is inherently more dangerous than on dry roads, but I love everything about the way the world is quieter and the daylight is magnified by snow. In order to have snow, it has to be cold, so I'd rather put on layers, embrace the cold, and have snow.”
Anne: “I am passionate about building a fire in the woodstove. It makes me feel primitive and capable, like I could potentially also erect a shelter out of pinecones or spear a fish with a twig. I know I can't do these things, not even close, but lighting some sticks on fire in a controlled way makes me delusional. And sometimes I put a pan on top of the woodstove and fry an egg in there; turns out an egg cooked in the living room tastes better than one cooked in the kitchen.”
I’m enticed!
